Does SignalLane work on right-to-left storefronts?
Yes. Banners, notices, the broken-link card and the cart suggestion follow your theme's text direction, and read right to left for Arabic, Hebrew and other right-to-left languages.
Yes. SignalLane's storefront surfaces read right to left when your storefront does: banners and notices in every design, the store selector and store list, the broken-link card and its countdown, and the cart suggestion.
How the direction is chosen
- Your theme decides first. When your theme sets a text direction on the page, SignalLane follows it.
- When it sets none, and the shopper's language is right to left (Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, Urdu, Pashto, Sindhi, Uyghur, Yiddish, Dhivehi or Central Kurdish), SignalLane sets right to left on its own elements only. It never changes the direction of your theme's pages.
Layouts flip too: a close button that sits at the right-hand end in English sits at the left-hand end in Arabic.
Your words and product names
Text you write, and product names, take their direction from their own content. An English product name inside an Arabic banner reads left to right, and an Arabic title in an English layout reads right to left.
Built-in text
SignalLane's own text exists in Arabic and Hebrew. For the other right-to-left languages it has no built-in text, so those shoppers read its English sentences in a right-to-left layout. Write your own words in those languages to avoid that. Translate your own words.
Checkout
The checkout message is drawn with Shopify's own checkout components, so its direction follows Shopify's checkout for the buyer's language. A checkout refusal is a sentence Shopify displays, in the same way.
Check it on your store
Open your storefront in a right-to-left language with ?signallane_preview=1 at the end of the address. You see the banner or notice a visitor would get, in that language and direction, without anyone being redirected. How the preview works.
Questions and answers
- Do I need to change anything in my theme?
- No. SignalLane follows the direction your theme sets. If your theme sets none, SignalLane sets it on its own elements only.
- Is the checkout message right to left?
- The checkout message is built from Shopify's own checkout components, so it follows Shopify's layout for the buyer's language.
