How do I use the Broken links page?
The Broken links page lists every page visitors reached and did not find, up to 50,000 pages kept for 400 days. Filter, sort, export, and fix or hide each page from its row's menu.
On the URL redirects page, press View all broken links. The Broken links page is SignalLane's whole record of pages on your store that visitors reached and did not find, one row per page. It keeps up to 50,000 pages and drops a page nobody has reached for 400 days. Nothing from before SignalLane began keeping the record is in it.
Find the pages that matter
- The tabs: All, Temporary redirect, Suggestion waiting and Needs a redirect (no SignalLane redirect and no waiting suggestion).
- Search paths: type part of an address and press Enter.
- Filter: Kind (Product page, Collection, Page, Blog post, Search, Other), Referred from, Hidden pages and, while SignalLane keeps a copy of your Shopify redirects, Hide pages already redirected in Shopify.
- Sort: Most visits, Most recently seen or Most recently first seen.
The page's Actions menu holds Look for suggestions, Sync Shopify redirects and Export CSV. The Seen column gives the first and last time a page was reached. Visits counts each browser session that reached the page once, so read it as a minimum. It can include crawlers that run JavaScript. Referred from shows up to three sites seen sending visitors there; a dash means SignalLane has no record of where they came from.
Fix a page from its menu
Every action is in the row's … menu, which shows only what applies:
- Approve suggestion or Create a Shopify redirect… — a permanent redirect, for any kind of page, after you confirm.
- Find a suggestion — looks for a page to suggest right now, for any kind of page except a search page. Nothing is created.
- Send visitors to a page… — a temporary redirect for a product page, which runs only while your 404 choice is one of the "Send them…" choices. Pause, Resume, Remove… and Make permanent manage it.
- Hide from list — takes the page out of the list and the suggestion search. It changes nothing on your store.
- Forget this page… — deletes SignalLane's record of the page and nothing else.
A temporary redirect runs in the visitor's browser after the 404 page loads, and search engines do not follow it. A Shopify redirect is permanent and search engines follow it. How redirect suggestions work.
Several pages at once
Tick up to the 50 pages shown and use the bar above the list. Create redirects creates, after you confirm, the waiting suggestion of each ticked page unless it is a guess by name or has no badge; those, and pages with no suggestion, are skipped so you can check each from its own menu. Hide selected, Show selected again and Forget work on all of them too. A summary names every page that was not done, and why.
Hide the noise
Tick up to 50 pages and press Hide selected, or, under Hidden pages, press Add a pattern… and type an address with one * at the start or the end, such as /wp-admin/* or *.php. You can have up to 20 patterns.
The Status column
The Status column shows Shopify's mark first, then SignalLane's badges, such as Temporary redirect or Suggestion waiting; a dash means neither applies. Whether a page is already redirected in your Shopify admin is not read on every visit. The mark says "Not checked" until you press the Check the … links below in Shopify button, which checks the rows on screen, or until it reads from SignalLane's synced copy of your Shopify redirects, when it names the copy's date. Why SignalLane reads your Shopify redirects.
Export
Export CSV prepares the list, with your filters and order, in the background; you can leave the page. A Download CSV button appears when it is ready and works for 24 hours.
When the record is full
If the record has gone over its 50,000 pages, the page says when, in a banner. While it is full, newly reported pages are not kept, and SignalLane cannot tell you which ones it removed.
Questions and answers
- Why is an old broken link missing?
- Nothing from before SignalLane began keeping the record on your store is filled in, and a page nobody has reached for 400 days is dropped.
- Can I upload the CSV to Shopify's redirect importer?
- No. The export is a report of what SignalLane recorded, not a file Shopify's importer accepts.
- Why does the count differ from the Attribution page?
- Visits to broken pages on the Attribution page counts visits only in the dates you picked. This page counts them over the whole record.

SignalLane suggests Shopify redirects for broken pages and you choose which to create. It never creates one on its own, never touches yours, and its redirects stay if you uninstall.

One pattern such as /old-shop/* covers every broken address that matches. It can send visitors on at once, or turn the matching pages SignalLane has recorded into Shopify redirects after a preview.

On any missing page SignalLane can show a card with similar products and somewhere else to go, which is never empty; send a shopper on from a dead product page; or do nothing. It helps shoppers; only a Shopify redirect fixes search.
- URL redirects and broken linksWhy does SignalLane read my Shopify redirects?
So it never suggests a redirect over one you made. SignalLane reads your Shopify redirects list about once a day and when you choose Sync Shopify redirects. A sync never changes your redirects.
