How do I keep my old links when I move to Shopify?
List your old store's addresses once: SignalLane matches each one to a product, collection or page on your Shopify store and creates the Shopify redirects you approve, without replacing any you made.
When a store moves to Shopify from another platform, its addresses change: /catalog/linen-shirt.html becomes /products/linen-shirt. Every old link, from search results, other sites and old emails, breaks on launch day. SignalLane matches your old addresses to the pages on your Shopify store and creates the Shopify redirects you approve, so old links and search results keep working.
Open URL redirects and press Set up your move on the Moving to Shopify? card. Under Your old store, type its web address, such as https://oldshop.com (up to 5 if it had more than one). SignalLane works out the old platform from your addresses; change it if it guessed wrong.
Add your old addresses
Add them in any of three ways, as often as you like:
- A CSV file: one column of old addresses, an old and a new column, or your old platform's product export with an address and a SKU. A clicks or visits column puts the busiest addresses first. Press Download a sample file to see the layout.
- Your old site's sitemap: SignalLane reads it for you. Do this before you move your domain - once the old site is gone, its sitemap is too.
- A linked Shopify store: when you are moving from one of your Shopify stores to another, SignalLane takes the addresses from that store's products and collections. No file needed.
The sample file
The first two columns are Shopify's own redirect layout, so a file you prepared for Shopify works as it is. Only Redirect from is required. Leave Redirect to empty and SignalLane suggests a match. SKU, Title and Clicks are optional: they help matching and put the busiest addresses first.
Redirect from,Redirect to,SKU,Title,Clicks
/catalog/linen-shirt.html,,LS-01,Linen shirt,120
/about-us.html,/pages/about,,,40Review the matches
SignalLane matches each old address to a live product, collection or page on this store. A sure match is one SignalLane can confirm, and each row says why it was matched. A new address from your file is never taken on trust: if it is not found, not live, or itself redirected, the row says so and nothing is created for it.
Each row shows the old address, its proposed new address and why. Approve the rows you agree with, change a target, or skip a row. Ask AI suggests a live product or page for an address with no match, using AI credits; you approve each pick yourself, one at a time. SignalLane never chooses your home page or the list of every product for you, because search engines may treat that as a missing page.
Create the redirects
Press Create redirects. SignalLane creates them one at a time and checks Shopify first for each address. It never replaces a redirect it didn't make - those are listed as Already redirected. You need redirect access and redirect suggestions turned on in the URL redirects settings.
Until its Shopify redirect exists, an approved address sends visitors on as soon as they reach the missing page. That helps visitors, not search engines. Create redirects for sure matches automatically is off by default; turned on, SignalLane approves and creates each sure match it finds, now and later. Guesses, AI picks and addresses you removed are never created this way.
After launch
- Connect your domain to Shopify, and add your old domain as a Shopify domain so its addresses reach these redirects.
- Press Check after launch: it reads a sample of your busiest redirected addresses on your store's own myshopify address. It checks a sample, not every address.
- Submit your new sitemap in Google Search Console. Use Change of Address there only if the domain changed.
- Keep the redirects for at least a year (Google's own advice).
Old addresses nobody listed still turn up on the Broken links page when visitors reach them, and a redirect pattern can cover a whole old section at once. SignalLane keeps a finished move's list for 400 days, then deletes it.
Questions and answers
- Which plan do I need?
- Moving to Shopify is included from the Growth plan: up to 15,000 old addresses on Growth and up to 100,000 on Pro. Enterprise plans agree a larger number with us.
- Will SignalLane replace a redirect I already made in Shopify?
- No. It checks Shopify for each address before it creates a redirect, and it never replaces a redirect it didn't make. Those addresses are listed as Already redirected.
- What happens to the redirects if I uninstall SignalLane?
- They are ordinary Shopify redirects, so they stay on your store. You can remove them from the Moving to Shopify page while SignalLane is installed.
- Can I use Shopify's own redirect file?
- Yes. A file with Shopify's redirect columns, Redirect from and Redirect to, works as it is. SignalLane still checks every new address in it before anything is created.

- URL redirects and broken linksHow do redirect patterns work?
One pattern such as /old-shop/* covers every broken address that matches. It can send visitors on at once, or turn the matching pages SignalLane has recorded into Shopify redirects after a preview.
- URL redirects and broken linksHow do I use the Broken links page?
The Broken links page lists every page visitors reached and did not find, up to 50,000 pages kept for 400 days. Filter, sort, export, and fix or hide each page from its row's menu.
- URL redirects and broken linksWhy does SignalLane read my Shopify redirects?
So it never suggests a redirect over one you made. SignalLane reads your Shopify redirects list about once a day and when you choose Sync Shopify redirects. A sync never changes your redirects.

On any missing page SignalLane can show a card with similar products and somewhere else to go, which is never empty; send a shopper on from a dead product page; or do nothing. It helps shoppers; only a Shopify redirect fixes search.
