Cart and checkout

What checkout rules can I set up?

Block addresses, postal codes, emails, phones, cities, states/provinces, PO boxes and tagged customers; set minimums and quantity limits. Shopify checks them once you add SignalLane in Settings › Checkout › Checkout rules.

Open Checkout rules in SignalLane. The page is a table with one row per rule, showing its entries, whether its message is Default or Custom, and whether it is Set or Not set. Click a row to open that rule's own editor, then press Save. Your edits are kept while you move between rules, until you save or discard them. Your rules are sent to your checkout, and Shopify starts checking them, on every checkout and every plan, once you add SignalLane in Settings › Checkout › Checkout rules.

What you can block

  • Blocked shipping addresses: a street line blocks it in every postal code; add | and a postal code for only that combination (123 Main St|M5V 3A8), or end with * for every address that starts with it.
  • Blocked postal codes: M5V* blocks every code starting with M5V.
  • Blocked emails and Blocked domains (start each domain with @, such as @example.com).
  • Blocked phones: matched whatever the spacing or country code.
  • Blocked cities and Blocked states/provinces (a two-letter country prefix is dropped, so US-TX becomes TX).
  • Refuse tagged customers: customers tagged signallane-block. Tag them by hand, or let Shopify Flow add the tag.
  • Refuse PO boxes: refuses PO box addresses.

Limits and requirements

  • Minimum order total: one minimum per currency. Currencies come from your markets, and you can add others.
  • Quantity limits: a maximum quantity of one product per order, a maximum number of items per cart, or both. Leave a field blank for no limit.
  • Require a signed-in customer: refuses checkout to guests.
  • Never block (allowlist): an email or a domain that skips every other rule on this page. The country block on a visitor rule still applies.

Expiry dates and notes

Every entry in a list can have an Until date and a Note. An entry stops counting after its Until date, which is judged by your store's own date and includes the day itself. The dashboard warns you about entries that have expired or expire within seven days. A note is private: it stays in SignalLane and is never sent to your checkout or shown to a buyer.

To add many values at once, press Paste a list in the rule's editor and enter one per line.

Messages in every language

Most rules have their own message field (Blocked domains and the allowlist do not). Leave one empty to use SignalLane's own sentence, in the buyer's language. Under Message language, pick a language to write your own version; leave it empty and those buyers see your default text. Translating your own words.

Size

Your rules and messages must fit a fixed size Shopify allows for checkout data. Space used, on the Checkout rules page, shows how much you have used; it opens on its own when you are near the limit. If translations do not fit, SignalLane leaves some languages out and a warning names them.

Your buyers' data stays in Shopify

The rules run inside Shopify's checkout. Shopify compares the buyer's address, email and phone with your lists there, and nothing about the buyer reaches SignalLane. Only the lists and messages you type are sent to your checkout. What SignalLane stores.

Questions and answers

Does SignalLane see my buyers' addresses or emails?
No. The rules run inside Shopify's checkout. Only the lists and messages you type are sent there; nothing about the buyer reaches SignalLane.
Do the rules apply to Shop Pay and Apple Pay?
Yes, once you add SignalLane in Settings › Checkout › Checkout rules. Shopify checks them on every checkout, including Shop Pay and Apple Pay.
Is this fraud protection?
No. The rules add friction where you choose to, and a determined attacker will change what you blocked. Use them alongside Shopify's own fraud analysis and Flow.
