Cart and checkout

Why does a suggestion not show for some countries?

A cart or checkout suggestion shows only to buyers in a country the destination sells to, and ships to when SignalLane could read its shipping zones. The editor says which countries miss out.

When SignalLane knows where the destination sells, the cart suggestion and the checkout message are shown only to buyers it can sell and ship to. Nothing is ever blocked.

Where it sells, and where it ships

  • Where it sells: for one of your market domains, the countries of the markets it serves (your primary domain also serves any market with no domain of its own). For a linked store, the countries all its markets sell to.
  • Where it ships: the countries in that store's shipping zones, or everywhere when it has a Rest of World zone.

SignalLane learns both each time your rules are published, and checks again about once a day.

What the editor tells you

Under the switches on the Suggest the other store card, the rule editor names the countries that will miss out, as of your last publish:

  • does not sell to — the destination does not sell to that country.
  • does not ship to — it sells there but has no shipping zone for it. SignalLane says this only after it has read the shipping zones.
  • couldn't check where it ships — SignalLane could not read the shipping zones, so it goes by where the destination sells alone.
  • couldn't check where it sells — a linked store needs reconnecting, or Shopify did not answer. The suggestion is then shown to every buyer the rule matches.

When the next rule takes over

When the first rule that matches a buyer points at a destination that does not sell or ship to them, the cart and the checkout try your next matching rule instead. That can be a different destination from the banner the same buyer saw on the storefront. How rules are ordered.

Market domains that are not active

A market that is not active (a draft) has no live store to suggest. Its domain is listed as "not active" and cannot be picked for the suggestion. A rule saved earlier that suggests a website you typed, or a market that is no longer active, keeps working as saved, and the editor and the rules list say so. Pick one of your active market domains to change it.

Fixing a country that misses out

Add the country to one of the destination's markets, or add a shipping zone for it, in that store's Shopify settings. Then save a rule or wait for the daily check, and the warning updates.

Questions and answers

Does this block buyers in those countries?
No. They simply do not see the suggestion. To refuse checkout by country, use Block checkout.
I changed my shipping zones. When does SignalLane notice?
The next time your rules are published, or at SignalLane's own check about once a day, whichever comes first.

Turn on the Suggest the other store card on a rule that sends visitors to a linked store or one of your market domains. The cart suggestion needs SignalLane's Growth plan or above; the checkout message also needs Shopify Plus.

  • Linked storesWhat can a rule do once stores are linked?

A rule can send visitors to the linked store, offer the same product there, suggest it in the cart or at checkout, and list it in the store-picker layouts. Its orders are attributed too.

The rule with the lowest Priority number wins and is the only one that acts on that page. Answers to a banner, once-per-session redirects and loop limits decide the rest.
