What data does SignalLane store about my shoppers?
A random browser id from Shopify, the landing page and campaign tags, and each order's id, total and currency. No shopper names, phone numbers, addresses or IP addresses.
SignalLane stores the least it needs to say which campaign brought an order and where your visitors were sent. It does not store a shopper's name, phone number, postal address or IP address, and keeps an email address only in the one case below: a customer's own data request.
Visit records (kept 30 days)
When your store's privacy settings allow it, SignalLane's pixel, which Shopify runs on your store, reports two moments: a landing on your store, and a finished order. For each, SignalLane keeps:
- A random browser id that Shopify assigns to each browser on your store. It is pseudonymous: it names no one, but because it is stored beside order ids it can relate to a customer. It is what joins an order to the visit before it.
- Where the visit landed: your store's domain and the page's path, never the full address.
- Where it came from: the referring site's domain only, and campaign tags from a fixed list (such as
utm_source,gclid,fbclidandttclid). Any other part of the address is dropped. - For an order: the order's Shopify id and checkout reference. From your Shopify orders, with your permission: when it was placed, changed or cancelled, whether it is a test, its sales channel, its payment status, and its current total and currency after returns and refunded items.
- Labels SignalLane works out, such as which AI assistant sent the visit, whether SignalLane helped by redirecting the visitor, or which part of the card on a missing page the visitor followed.
Daily totals (kept 400 days)
The Attribution page reads daily sums: visits, orders and revenue per day, and the most visited landing pages for AI assistant traffic. They contain no browser id and no order id.
The Broken links record (kept 400 days)
For a page that no longer exists, SignalLane keeps its path, how often it was reached, when, and up to twenty referring site domains. Nothing in it identifies a visitor. What happens on a 404.
Visitors routed (a daily count, kept 400 days)
To apply your plan's limit, SignalLane counts how many different visitors it redirected or showed a banner, popup or notice to on your store each day. The visitor's browser sends one small request with your store's public SignalLane key and nothing else, and only when the visitor's privacy settings allow analytics. SignalLane uses the network address for a moment to tell visitors apart for that day and then forgets it: no identifier is sent or stored, SignalLane does not use the tally to identify anyone, and it cannot be turned back into an address. After two days only the day's total is kept. SignalLane makes this count for itself, so mention it in your own privacy notice. Plans and usage.
Your checkout rules' lists
The block lists you type on the Checkout rules page (email addresses and domains, phone numbers, street addresses, postal codes, cities and states/provinces) are stored by SignalLane and published to your checkout so Shopify can compare buyers against them. Keep them to what you need, and use an entry's Until date so it stops counting. A note on an entry stays in SignalLane and is never published. What checkout rules can I set up?.
A customer's data request (kept 90 days)
When a customer asks for their data, SignalLane keeps their Shopify customer id and email with that request for 90 days, together with a copy of the records for the orders named. This is the only place SignalLane keeps a shopper's email address.
What SignalLane does not store
- A shopper's name, phone number or postal address, and an email address outside a data request.
- IP addresses. To slow down abuse, and to count visitors routed once a day, SignalLane briefly uses the address in memory and never stores or logs it.
- Location. The visitor's country, and state/province where Shopify provides one, is kept in their browser for that visit. When Shopify cannot place a visitor, SignalLane's own country lookup answers with a country only. The location is never stored by SignalLane.
- A buyer's checkout details. Your checkout rules compare the buyer's address, email and phone inside Shopify's checkout. The buyer's details from a live checkout never reach SignalLane.
About your store and your products
SignalLane also keeps a copy of your product catalogue (names, prices, availability and similar) to match products across linked stores. That is your store's data, not your shoppers'. Linked stores see each other's store name and domain. Retention and missing days.
Questions and answers
- Can SignalLane tell me who a shopper is?
- Not from its visit records. They hold a random id that Shopify gives each browser, never a name, email, phone or address. Because that id sits beside order ids, it can be related to a customer through the order, which is why SignalLane treats it as personal data.
- Can I change how long visit records are kept?
- Not today. Visit records are kept for 30 days and daily totals for 400 days, for every store.

One cookie, only when a rule remembers a shopper's answer and they allowed preferences. Everything else lasts one visit. Shopify runs the pixel only when the shopper's choices allow analytics.
- Privacy and dataHow are data requests and deletions handled?
Shopify passes your customers' data and deletion requests to SignalLane automatically. Deletions happen as they arrive; a data request is recorded and sent to you when you ask.

Block addresses, postal codes, emails, phones, cities, states/provinces, PO boxes and tagged customers; set minimums and quantity limits. Shopify checks them once you add SignalLane in Settings › Checkout › Checkout rules.
