What does the Klaviyo integration add to my Klaviyo profiles?

With it on, SignalLane adds a visitor's country, language, market, store, banner choice and whether it sent them here to their Klaviyo profile, only with their consent and only if Klaviyo already knows them.

SignalLane can ask Klaviyo to add a few details to the profiles of visitors Klaviyo already knows, so you can build Klaviyo segments on them. It is off until you turn it on, under Settings › Integrations › Klaviyo.

What it adds

These profile properties, all starting with "SignalLane" so they sit together in Klaviyo's list. SignalLane keeps writing these exact names:

  • SignalLane Country: the visitor's country, as a two-letter code, such as US.
  • SignalLane Region: their state/province when Shopify knows it, such as US-CA.
  • SignalLane Language: the language of the page they are reading, such as fr or pt-BR.
  • SignalLane Market: the country your storefront is serving them, such as FR.
  • SignalLane Store: the storefront address they are browsing, such as shop.fr.
  • SignalLane Choice: their answer to a SignalLane banner, Stayed or the address of the destination they accepted.
  • SignalLane Redirected: true when SignalLane sent them here from another store or another of your storefront addresses.
  • SignalLane Redirected On: the date it did, in UTC, so it can read one day off from your local date.

SignalLane Choice is Stayed when the visitor chose to stay or closed the banner. Otherwise it is the destination of the rule they accepted; with the store-list and store-selector designs, that is the rule's destination, not the store they clicked. A visitor who accepts usually leaves at once, so the destination usually reaches Klaviyo only if they come back to this store in the same browser session. If a visitor answered several banners differently in one session, the property is left out.

When SignalLane sent the visitor here, it also records one SignalLane redirect event on their profile, once per browser session, which you can use to start a Klaviyo flow.

Values are codes, not words, so a segment works whatever language your store is in.

Who it applies to

  • Only visitors who allowed marketing and the sharing of their data in your store's cookie banner. A visitor who declines either gets nothing added. SignalLane checks again right before it asks Klaviyo; if they accept later, the details are added on that page or the next.
  • Only visitors Klaviyo already recognises on this store, for example after they clicked one of your Klaviyo emails, filled in a Klaviyo form or checked out. Anonymous visitors are never touched, and SignalLane never creates a Klaviyo profile.
  • Within one browser session the details are sent once, and again only when one of them changes.

Turn it on

  • In your theme editor (Online Store › Themes › Customize › App embeds), turn on Klaviyo's Klaviyo Onsite Javascript app embed and the SignalLane app embed. SignalLane uses Klaviyo's own script; a store with only Klaviyo's pixel has nothing for SignalLane to talk to.
  • In SignalLane, open Settings › Integrations and press Connect on the Klaviyo card. The card then says On since and the date.
  • Mention Klaviyo in your store's privacy policy, as you already must for Klaviyo itself.

"Connect" only means SignalLane's storefront script may ask Klaviyo to add these details. The card never says "connected to your account": there is no account, and SignalLane can't see whether Klaviyo is installed, whether its app embed is on, or which profiles were updated. A page your theme has cached can take a little while to start or stop. If the card says Your last change hasn't reached your storefront yet, SignalLane could not update your storefront, and it may not match the setting until it succeeds.

Turn it off

Press Disconnect on the Klaviyo card and confirm. SignalLane stops asking Klaviyo to add details. Details it already added stay on those Klaviyo profiles; SignalLane can't remove them, so delete them in Klaviyo if you need to. If you uninstall and later reinstall SignalLane, it starts with this off.

Klaviyo's side

Klaviyo documents adding profile details with an email address or phone number. SignalLane sends neither, so only visitors Klaviyo already recognises on your store get the details. If Klaviyo changes how its script works, the details may stop arriving without SignalLane being able to tell you.

How do I check it works and build a segment?.

Questions and answers

Does SignalLane need my Klaviyo account or API key?
No. SignalLane holds no Klaviyo account or key. It asks the Klaviyo script already on your storefront to add the details, in the visitor's browser.
Does SignalLane send email addresses to Klaviyo?
No. It never sends an email address, a phone number, a page address, a product, a cart or any id, and it never sees or stores an email address itself.
Can SignalLane tell me which profiles were updated?
No. SignalLane can't see your Klaviyo account, so it cannot see which profiles were updated, or whether Klaviyo is installed at all. Check a profile in Klaviyo.
