How does SignalLane count visitors sent by AI assistants?
SignalLane names the assistant from the site that sent the visitor and the link's campaign tag: ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Copilot or You.com. Shopify may classify differently.
When a shopper follows a link from an AI assistant to your store, SignalLane counts the visit as a landing visit and names the assistant. The AI assistants section on the Attribution page shows those visits and the orders that followed them, and Home shows the number of visits as AI-assistant visits.
How the assistant is named
SignalLane names the assistant from the site that sent the visitor and the link's campaign tag. It recognises six assistants:
- ChatGPT
- Gemini
- Claude
- Perplexity
- Copilot
- You.com
A visit from an AI assistant counts as a landing visit even when the link carries no campaign tag. An order that follows it with no campaign is shown as from an AI assistant with no campaign.
What the section shows
- Visits from AI assistants: page views that arrived from an assistant. A reload or a second tab counts again, so these are not Shopify sessions.
- Attributed revenue, Orders per visit and Average order value. They show a trend badge against the previous period only when both periods are confirmed with your Shopify orders, and revenue only in a single currency.
- A table of each assistant's visits, orders per visit and revenue.
- The products and collections those visitors landed on.
Orders and revenue come from your Shopify orders: each order's current total after returns and refunded items, without cancelled and test orders. A figure shows a dash until it is confirmed with your Shopify orders, never 0.
What it cannot see
- Google's AI answers, which arrive as ordinary Google search.
- An assistant that sends no referring site and no utm_source. Its visits look like any other direct visit.
- Shoppers who declined tracking, or whose browser blocks it.
A recent change
SignalLane records AI visits that arrive without a campaign tag only since a recent update. Until a comparison period lies entirely after the first such visit, the section shows no change against the previous period and names that day instead.

Questions and answers
- Why don't I see Google's AI answers?
- A visit from Google's AI answers arrives as an ordinary Google search, so SignalLane cannot tell it apart from search.
- Is a visit from Bing counted as Copilot?
- No. Only visits from Copilot's own site are counted as Copilot. Bing search is not an AI assistant here.

- AttributionWhy did an order show as 'direct' after a redirect, and how does SignalLane fix it?
A hop to another domain or store can drop the campaign tags and the visit that started the order. SignalLane carries the tags, marks its own redirects, and credits the order on its Attribution page.
- AttributionHow long are visit records kept, and why might a day be missing?
Visit records are kept 30 days and daily totals 400 days. A banner names any day SignalLane could not record every report, and a day can also be low for reasons it cannot see.
