What does the AI shopping readiness page check?
An overview in three cards: what SignalLane can write for you, which products, collections, pages and blog posts are missing information, and how your storefront reads to assistants, with the details on Storefront checks.
The AI shopping readiness page (AI readiness in SignalLane's menu) shows what SignalLane finds on your storefront and in your product data. It cannot see what an assistant such as ChatGPT or Perplexity reads or recommends. The page itself only reads; the pages its tiles open can write text to your store, and only when you save there.
The page is an overview in three cards. Its Actions menu holds Check now (read your storefront again straight away), Storefront checks and Change history. Under the title it says when SignalLane last checked your storefront. Every caveat about how the figures are made is under About these checks at the foot of the page.
Write and fix
One tile for each page that can write missing text for you, with the number it can fix:
- Alt text: product images without alt text. Add alt text to your images.
- SEO titles & descriptions: products with no SEO title or meta description of their own. Fix SEO titles and meta descriptions.
- Descriptions: products with no description or one under 150 characters, plus collections with no description once SignalLane has read your collections (until then the tile says it counts products only). Write descriptions.
- Translations: your own messages not yet translated into your store's other languages, or No other languages when your store publishes only one. Translate your messages.
A figure SignalLane has not read yet says Not checked yet, and one it could not read says Couldn't read. Neither is ever shown as a zero.
Product and page data
The headline says how many of your live products (active and published to your online store) have a description, an image, a category and an SEO title and description of their own. Then one tile per problem:
- No description, no image, no category, and no SEO title or description of their own.
- Title over 150 characters, which shopping feeds cut short; description under 150 characters of text; main image without alt text.
- Products with no barcode (GTIN, UPC or EAN) on any variant. This is a recommendation, not a problem: handmade and custom products often have none and need none.
Each tile carries a badge. Fix opens the SignalLane page that writes that text, already filtered to it. View opens the list of exactly those products, where each row has Edit in Shopify. A tile with nothing left says Done. A line under the tiles counts titles over 70 characters, as advice: most people see only the first 70. How to work through the lists.
Below the products come your collections (how many have no description, with links to Write collection descriptions and Fix collection SEO titles and descriptions) and, with an optional permission, your published pages and blog posts. Why it asks to read your pages and blog posts.
How assistants see your store
A table with one row per storefront check, each with a badge and one line: robots.txt, Sitemap and product page, Conflicting product data, Policies and store information, More product pages and your sitemap and Optional AI information files. Each row opens its section on the Storefront checks page. The overview shows only what SignalLane already holds from its last check; it never reads your storefront when you open it. What the storefront checks read.
How fresh it is
SignalLane reads your storefront once a week and keeps what it read; Check now reads it straight away. Products follow your catalogue as SignalLane keeps it in step. Collections are read again when you ask and soon after one changes; pages and blog posts when you open the page or press Check again.
Questions and answers
- Does the AI shopping readiness page change my store?
- No. The page reads your storefront and SignalLane's copy of your products. Its Fix tiles open the pages that write text for you, and those change your store only when you press Save there.
- Will fixing everything make assistants recommend my products?
- SignalLane cannot promise that. The page shows what your storefront makes available; how an assistant ranks a store is its own decision.
- What do Fix, View and Done mean on a tile?
- Fix opens a SignalLane page that can write the missing text, filtered to that problem. View opens the list of exactly those items, each with Edit in Shopify. Done means nothing is left to do.
