What are AI credits?
Writing alt text, SEO text, descriptions and translations with AI uses credits: 1 for each answer you can use, nothing for one SignalLane cannot use. Settings › AI credits shows your limit and what you have used.
Several SignalLane pages can write text with AI, as well as with a free suggestion or Shopify Sidekick. Writing with AI uses AI credits. Open Settings › AI credits to see your monthly limit and how much of it is used.
What uses a credit
One credit is one AI answer SignalLane can use:
- Alt text: 1 credit per image description.
- SEO titles & descriptions: 1 credit per item, for its title and description together.
- Descriptions: 1 credit per product or collection description.
- Translations: 1 credit per message in each language.
- Automatic fill with AI, for new product images or new products: 1 credit each.
Before it starts, SignalLane counts what it will ask for and asks you to confirm. An answer SignalLane cannot use uses no credit, and an item you already edited or left as it is is not sent at all.
Your monthly limit
Set Monthly AI credit limit to any whole number of credits from 1 to 1,000,000; the page shows how many are used this month and when they renew, with your Shopify billing period. When the credits run out, AI writing stops until they renew. Automatic fill with AI then waits: SignalLane never switches to free text on its own.
Each SignalLane plan includes credits every billing period (30 days): 100 on Starter, 500 on Growth and 2,000 on Pro. Credits used beyond those are charged per credit through your Shopify bill, never past your limit, which starts at your plan's credits plus 1,000. In a free trial a plan includes at most 200 credits (Starter 100) and only those can be used; the plan's full allowance starts with its first paid billing period. Plans and usage.
You stay in charge
Every AI answer is checked by SignalLane before you see it, and arrives as a suggestion you can edit, discard or save. Nothing reaches your store until you press Save selected, except with automatic fill, which you turn on yourself and can undo. What SignalLane changed in your store.
Questions and answers
- Why does a Write with AI card say Not available?
- AI isn't available on your store right now, and Settings › AI credits says so. The free suggestions and Sidekick drafts still work.
- Does an answer I discard use a credit?
- Yes, if SignalLane could use it: a credit is spent when a usable answer arrives, whether you then save it or not. Answers SignalLane cannot use are free.
- What does SignalLane send to the AI?
- Only your own item's text, such as a title, its option values or its description, and for an image its Shopify image address. Nothing about your shoppers is sent.
