How do I fix SEO titles and meta descriptions?
SEO titles & descriptions lists products, collections, pages and blog posts with no SEO title or meta description, or text that is too long. Get a suggestion from your own text or import Sidekick's drafts, then Save. Undo lasts 90 days.
The search engine title and meta description are what search results usually show for a page. Open AI readiness and the SEO titles & descriptions tile. The page lists the items with no SEO title or meta description of their own, from SignalLane's copy of your store.
Tabs and filters
- Products, Collections, and Pages and blog posts (switch between pages and blog posts inside it). Pages and posts need the optional permission to read them, and a page hidden from search engines is not listed.
- Filter by Missing SEO title or description (the default), No meta description, Too long, Has a suggestion, Saved by SignalLane or Imported drafts. The tab counts follow the filter.
- Search by title or handle. A search needs at least 3 letters or numbers in a row.
Search engines often shorten titles over 70 characters and descriptions over 160. Those show under Too long, and SignalLane changes them only when you choose to.
Choose how to write
- From your store's text (free): tick items and press Suggest from your store. Each suggestion is made from the item's own title and description. Tick Add my store name to titles (many themes already add it) if you want it.
- Import from Sidekick (free): import Sidekick's drafts.
- Write with AI: 1 AI credit covers the title and description of one item. About AI credits.
Each suggestion shows in the row's SEO title and Meta description boxes, where you can change it. Dismiss marks an item you want to leave as it is, without writing anything; Show again brings it back.
Save and Undo
Tick items and press Save selected. SignalLane counts what it will save and asks once. Only empty fields are filled; to replace text that is too long, tick Replace the current text in that question. Right before writing, SignalLane reads the current text and keeps it, and it refuses the change if the text moved in the meantime. Undo on a row, or Undo this save, puts the previous text back for 90 days.
Saving needs an optional permission: Allow product editing for products and collections, Allow content editing for pages and blog posts. On this page, SignalLane uses it to write only these two values.
New products
Under Fill SEO titles and descriptions for new products automatically, choose From your store to fill the empty fields of each new product once it is published. Nothing you wrote is changed, a very large batch is filled gradually, over several hours if needed, and each change can be undone for 90 days. Off is the default.
Questions and answers
- Will SignalLane overwrite SEO text I wrote?
- No. Save fills empty fields only. Text that is too long is replaced only when you tick Replace the current text in the save question, and text within the limits is never changed.
- Why does a product show as missing an SEO title when Google shows one?
- Without one of its own, Shopify uses the product title and the start of the description, which is often too long for search results. The list counts only titles and descriptions you set.
- Can I write SEO text with AI?
- Yes. Choose the Write with AI card: 1 AI credit covers the title and description of one item, and you check each suggestion before it is saved. Automatic fill with AI, if you turn it on, saves SEO text for new products without that step; you can undo any change for 90 days.
