Translate your SignalLane messages with Sidekick or AI

Fill the language tabs of your banners, checkout messages, picture descriptions and checkout rules messages with Shopify Sidekick, free, or with AI, using credits. Every translation is a draft until you save.

SignalLane's Translations page lists every message you typed and every language your store publishes. Open it from Translate beside the language selector of a rule or of Checkout rules, or from AI readiness and Settings. Translations arrive as drafts; nothing reaches a shopper until you tick drafts and press Save selected.

Translate with Sidekick

  1. On the Translations page, choose Translate with Sidekick and press Copy request.
  2. Paste it into Sidekick in your Shopify admin and send it. If you have many messages, ask Sidekick to continue before it writes the file.
  3. Save the CSV file Sidekick gives you.
  4. Press Import file, choose the file and press Import.
Use SignalLane's list_messages_to_translate tool to read my SignalLane messages. Translate each one into every language listed for it. Keep every word in curly brackets, like {store}, exactly as written. Keep each translation as short as its limit. Give me a CSV with a Reference column, a Source column, and one column per language code.

What the file must contain

  • A Reference column, copied exactly from Sidekick's list. SignalLane matches each row by its Reference only.
  • One column per language code, such as fr, de or pt-BR. A Source column is allowed and ignored.
  • Every word in curly brackets, like {store}, exactly as in your text. A translation that drops, adds or changes one is left out.
  • A CSV file saved as UTF-8, up to 10,000 rows and 5 MB. An empty cell means no draft, never "remove the translation".

Translate with AI

The Translate with AI card uses AI credits. About AI credits. Choose it, tick the languages and press Translate with AI. SignalLane counts the messages first and asks before using any credits: 1 credit for each message in each language.

It sends the AI only your own text, its words in curly brackets, its limit and the language - nothing about your shoppers. An answer that changes a word in curly brackets, is too long, or adds a link, a number, a price or an offer is not used and costs nothing.

Review and save

Drafts are tagged Imported · not saved or AI translation · not saved. Press Edit to change one, Discard to drop it, or tick drafts and press Save selected. Save writes them into the same language tabs you edit by hand and publishes once. A draft is not saved if your text or that language's translation changed after it was made.

Write SEO text and alt text with Sidekick, then import it.

Questions and answers

Which messages can be translated?
The text you typed in SignalLane: each rule's banner or notice, its product-page message, its cart and checkout suggestion and its checkout refusal, picture descriptions, and your eleven checkout rules messages. A rule's banner words are listed as Banner text, a Notice rule's as Notice text. SignalLane's own built-in sentences are already in 16 languages.
Into which languages?
The languages your store publishes in Shopify, besides its main one. A column for any other language is left out of the import, and the result names it.
Does translating with Sidekick use AI credits?
No. Sidekick is Shopify's assistant and importing its file is free. Translating with AI uses 1 credit for each message in each language, and nothing for an answer SignalLane could not use.
Will an import replace translations I already have?
Only if you tick Replace existing translations before importing. It is off by default, and a draft you edited is never replaced by a file.
