Write SEO text and alt text with Sidekick, then import it

Shopify Sidekick, the assistant in your Shopify admin, can read SignalLane's lists of what is missing SEO text or alt text, write a draft for each item, and give you a CSV file. You import that file into SignalLane, check each draft, and save the ones you want.

On the SEO titles & descriptions or Alt text page, under How do you want to write …?, choose Import from Sidekick. The steps below are shown there too, with a Copy request button that copies the request for you.

SEO titles and meta descriptions

1. Press Copy request.
2. Paste it into Sidekick in your Shopify admin and send it. If you have many items, ask Sidekick to continue before it writes the file.
3. Download the CSV file Sidekick gives you.
4. Press Import file, choose that file and press Import.
5. Tick the drafts on the list and press Save selected.

Use SignalLane to list my products that are missing an SEO title or meta description. For each one, write a draft SEO title of up to 60 characters and a draft meta description of up to 160 characters, and give me a CSV file with the columns Product ID, Draft SEO title and Draft meta description.

For collections, write "collections" instead of "products".

Alt text for images

The same five steps, on the Alt text page. The request follows the tab you are on, so it names product images, blog post covers or the images inside your pages and blog posts. On the Product images tab it is:

Use SignalLane to list the product images in my store that have no alt text. For each one, write a draft alt text of up to 125 characters, and give me a CSV file with the columns Reference, Used on, Image and Draft alt text, copying each Reference exactly.

What the file must contain

• SEO titles & descriptions: the columns Product ID, Draft SEO title and Draft meta description. A file with id or handle, and title or description, works too.
• Alt text: the columns Reference and Draft alt text. The Reference is SignalLane's own name for each image, so copy it exactly; a row whose image changed since the list was made is left out.
• A CSV file saved as UTF-8, up to 10,000 rows and 5 MB. Other columns are ignored.

After the import

The drafts appear on the list as suggestions marked Imported, and the import window says how many were added and why any rows were left out. Drafts are added only where the text is empty or too long, never over a suggestion you edited. Nothing changes in your store until you select the drafts and save. Importing uses no AI credits.
