What is the difference between Instant, Banner and Notice?
Instant redirects straight away, Banner lets the visitor choose whether to go, and Notice tells visitors you don't serve their region without sending them anywhere.
Every rule has a Mode. Instant redirects the visitor straight away. Banner shows a banner and lets the visitor choose whether to go. Notice tells visitors you don't serve their region; it never redirects anyone, so it has no destination.
Instant
The visitor is sent to the rule's destination as soon as SignalLane has checked the rule's conditions, with their campaign tags kept. They see nothing from SignalLane, so an Instant rule has nothing to customize: its Customize button stays off.
Under Advanced, Redirect at most once per session (Instant rules only) lets a visitor who comes back to your store in the same visit stay there.
Banner
The visitor sees a bar or a popup with your words and two choices: go to the destination, or stay. Going, staying or closing it is an answer. What happens next time is set under Advanced › When a visitor answers this banner:
- Ask again each time they come back to your store (the default) shows the banner again on the visitor's next visit. Within one visit it is not shown again.
- Remember their answer for 1–365 days stops asking for that long. Remembering needs the visitor's permission to save preferences, and some browsers, such as Safari, forget after about a week.
Leave the banner's words empty and it uses the default text from your theme's language settings. A banner rule can also offer the same product on a linked store, or speak only on products that are sold out here. What a linked store adds.
Notice
A notice is a popup that tells the visitor something, usually that you don't ship to their country yet. It needs a Notice title or a Message (or both) before it can be saved. By default it has a button that dismisses it (Continue browsing unless you write your own), and the visitor carries on shopping.
Block browsing
On a Notice rule's Customize screen, Block browsing (the visitor cannot close this notice) removes every way out. The notice shows on every page the rule matches, even after the visitor has answered other rules.
What each mode can do
- Customize the words and look: Banner and Notice. Instant shows nothing.
- Suggest the other store in the cart or at checkout: Instant and Banner, when the rule names countries and sends visitors to a linked store or one of your market domains.
- Block checkout: every mode, on any rule that names countries.
- Only when it's sold out here: Banner only.
Questions and answers
- Which mode should I start with?
- Banner. Nobody is moved without agreeing, and you can switch the rule to Instant later from the same Mode field.
- Can a Notice link to my other store?
- No. A Notice has no destination. If you want to offer another store, use a Banner rule instead.
