Why is a product page's data missing or conflicting?
What it means when a product page carries no product data, or two sets of product data that disagree, and who can fix it: usually your theme's developer or the support of an app that adds product data.
Every product page can carry a short, machine-readable description of the product: its name, image, price, currency and whether it is in stock. Search engines and AI assistants read it to understand the page without guessing from the layout. Most Shopify themes add it for you. SignalLane reads it on the product pages it checks and shows what it found on Storefront checks.
When a page has no product data
If SignalLane found no product data for a product on its own page, the page still works for shoppers, but machines have to guess what the product is. This usually happens with a customised theme, or a theme section that was replaced. Ask your theme's developer to add the product data back, or compare with an unchanged copy of your theme. Sometimes the page carries product data only for other products, for example in a list of related items, and not for the product itself; SignalLane says so separately.
When two parts of the page disagree
A page can carry more than one set of product data. That is fine when they agree. When they describe the product differently, for example with two prices or two stock states, a machine cannot tell which one is right. This usually means your theme and an app both add product data: a reviews app, a product feed app or an SEO app often adds its own.
- Find which app adds the second set: it is often the one installed most recently, or one whose settings mention structured data.
- Ask the app's support or your theme's developer to keep one set, or to make both describe the product the same way.
- After the change, press Check again on the finding. SignalLane reads that page again and shows Fixed when the problem is gone.
Questions and answers
- Can SignalLane fix the product data on my pages?
- No. The product data on a page comes from your theme and from apps you installed. SignalLane only reads the page and tells you what it found.
- Does complete product data mean assistants will show my products?
- No. Complete, consistent product data helps machines read your product page. It doesn't mean any AI assistant will show your store.
